She’s Playing Hard To Get

57449245Hi Five sang it best with that 90’s song.  She’s playin hard to get. . . but she likes  me, She likes me”

Dating is a game. And unless you’re winning, chances are you’re sick of playing.  My mom always told me men like a bit of a challenge, never let him know how interested you are initially, and make him chase you. Mommy, this is easier said than done!!

In any dating situation, no matter how old or new, playing a little bit hard to get can often increase the excitement and the level of desire in a relationship. But there has to be a proper balance involved. It is very important to gauge your partner’s level of interest so you don’t push him or her away.I feel as though playing hard to get can be a catch 22.  Sometimes, you walk a fine line between being too frigid and being unobtainable to wearing your feelings on your sleeve and being so easy that there is no challenge.

When testing the dating pool waters to see if any fish are worth reeling in, one must remember that the chase itself is nearly as important as the end result. Rushing into things sometimes puts on too much pressure, even in the perfect relationship. Taking too much of a nonchalant, lackadaisical attitude toward the relationship can also cause irreparable damage, making your mate to feel devalued and less important than he or she truly is.

For example

Dude #1 – He and I met and instantly I felt butterflies.  I found myself giving him invisible high fives and gold stars because we meshed (and yall know how often that happens when you date).  We would go on dates and I never wanted the night to end.   Whenever he called he received an instant line pass to the front of the line and all other plans with other dates were nixed.  He had me at hello.  You get it.

I kept telling myself don’t fall for it ice cold.  Don’t let him see how you do an inner cabbage patch whenever he does something sweet.  But, I did it.  I became the overly available chick……and he fell by the wayside.  The calls slowed down, the plans dried up, and my text message plan went back to normal.  The only reason, I came up with was ….he got bored….and there was no challenge.   Tear….tissue.

Dude #2  Amazingly, this one came around.  I listened to mama and tried to make him do all the work.  I would wait a few hours before returning a text.  I wouldn’t return phone calls, and made it seem like my day was so full that even President Obama couldn’t get an appointment.  That put a fuel to his fire.  He was on it like white on rice or Bruce Bruce on a new type of Ho Ho.  The meaner or more unavailable I was …..the harder he tried and chased me like I was carrying the winning touchdown.

After awhile, I was the one who got bored.  I got tired of playing uninterested and busy.  Soon enough, I was and he faded to black with no encore.

1) Men, do you like a woman who plays hard to get?

2) Women, have you had better luck when you play hard to get?

3) In the end, did you really want what you caught?
