The Weightloss Chronicles: Meet The Bloggers

I know there are so many of us out there who are on our own personal weightloss journey.  I can blog about my experience all day long or how I personally feel every one must take action to live their best and most healthy lives.  But interest in me can only last so long.  So, I decided the best way for us all to get the best out of our own diet experience is to share it with others.

11 dieters have committed to participate in the Weightloss Chronicles.  They will share with you their journeys, struggles, and triumphs as they battle with the bulge.  We have asked them to anonymously submit their weekly journals to highlight their weekly eating habits, exercise regimes, and give a little insight into their weightloss journey.  Every day POSH will post up a new journal from the participants beginning August 17, 2009.

Tune in and feel free to comment, encourage, and ask questions of our brave bloggers!  Lets get fit together!!

Meet BerryBella, Lady V, Starting Today, MagnoliaGirl, CapCityKid, CurvyCakes33, NYLA Southerner, Big Red, UnconventionalFaith, IvyLeague, and CarolinaBelle !

BerryBella is a 40 year old educator in New York looking to lose 20 lbs. over the course of the next 12 weeks. A stress-eater, she will face a major trigger by starting a new job this year. Having successfully lost 40 lbs. in the past, she knows that she has the ability to overcome her current poor eating habits by making healthier dietary choices and adding regular exercise to her lifestyle.

Lady V currently lives in California and wants to lose 15 pounds in 12 weeks. Her plan is to yoga, run, and maybe even box it off while also changing her relationship to food using “Intuitive Eating” techniques. As described in the best selling book, Intuitive Eating means ending the deprivation mentality of dieting and instead eating for energy and for the satisfaction of her taste buds.

StartingToday is a 30 year old female from Louisiana. Currently weighs 240 pounds. Hopes to lose 20-25 pounds in the 12-week span (avg. 2 pounds per week). Will certainly face challenges with controlling what she eats, as Southern food is tasty, but high in fat. Also faces challenges with lack of patience, as she often gives up when she doesn’t see immediate results. However, she feels that her strengths include a strong desire to lose weight and faith in God to guide her efforts.

MagnoliaGirl is a 28 year old consultant from the Southeast.  Losing weight in the past has been a matter of exercising regularly.  These days, moving more just doesn’t seem to move the weight, so she’s giving Weight Watchers a try.   In the past, she’s let life derail her, particularly travel for work.  This time she will try to make her healthy solutions enough a part of her life, that nothing can get her off track.  Her goal is to lose 18 pounds over the next 12 weeks.

Cap City Kid  is our male blogger living  in DC and working in politics. Most of his life he  has had a very active lifestyle, so he is  extremely uncomfortable with his current weight. He is trying to lose at least 25 lbs over the next 12 weeks… just in time for winter when no one will even notice. His main issues are trying start and maintain a healthy lifestyle while battling a sedentary work life, a dominant happy hour/ drinking culture and general portion control issues. He has been running for the last three weeks but is  finding consistency difficult. He looks forward to sharing my struggles and hopefully my eventual triumph over the battle of the bulge.

Curvycakes33is a 30 something sista teaching at a college in the southeastern part of the county. I have struggled with my weight as long as I can remember, however I have always felt I’ve been the exception to many of the stereotypes. I have always been active but regardless of the countless activities (dance, cheerleadering, gymnastics, karate, and basketball) these thighs have always been thunderous! I was extremely success two years ago getting 35 pounds off and down to a size 14. The last year and a half I have successfully gained it all back. Thanks to a new job, less responisiblity, and surrounded by men that keep feeding my chunky butt!! SO here I am annoyed with my lack of balance but empowered by the experience knowing that I looked and felt GREAT at a 14 (stil hella cute and sexy at a 18) but I don’t feel my personal best. I see the next 12 weeks as the beginning to a honest lifestyle change. I’m committed to getting 15-20 pounds OFF which will get me back to where I was this time last year… Challenges this past year have been adjusting to my work and play schedule. I teach night and day classes and the school I work at has the wackest gym facilities and the neighborhood I just moved from had no sidewalks. When I lived in my previous city there were gyms on every corner many were 24 hours and I jogged with friends in the neighborhood. I just moved to a new neighborhood and have cased it and it has sidewalks and safe places to so for the last 2 weeks I have walked 2-3 times a week to get start getting back into the mindset of exercise. I will be getting back to the 6 day a week workout regime and eating small meals throughout the day and cutting back my alcohol consumption.

NYLA Southerneris a female living in Lousiana looking to lose 25 pounds over the next 12 weeks.  The major challenge I believe I will have during this 12-week period is I live in a place where food is the nucelus of everything. There’s always something and somewhere to eat and social events will have food in it because it is the culture norm. Also, I am a part of a new business team along with a full-time job that can keep my work days beginning at 6 a.m. and ending 12 a.m. the next day. Then I can turn back with the same schedule the next day. The strengths I bring are my drive, determination and ambition. Furthermore, I’m looking at making lifestyle changes and listen to my body with regards to food and hunger. This 12-week chronicles will be a great start for me to eliminate the first 25 pounds that I need to discard.

Big Red is a female living in Nevada.   During this 12 week journey I hope to lose 60 pounds. They may be unrealistic but it is was I want to do. I currently weigh 232 pounds so if I lose 30 I will be satisfied. My biggest challenges will be the workplace. Business lunches, potlucks, client confrontations, etc. But I am confident that if I prepare myself daily for challenges and stressors of my workday I will succeed.  Losing 20 pounds will satisfy my doctor but I want to lose more.

Unconventional Faith is a female living in the District of Columbia.  My goal is to lose 50 lbs in the next twelve weeks.I am currently living in the District of Columbia. The strengths that I know I have for this journey are that I really enjoy exercise, I am very innovative with new diets and workout regimes, I enjoy cooking (healthy) and I have a pretty good work ethic. The challenges that I know I will face during this journey are balancing work and my Medical School application process with diet and exercise, Iam a comfort and stress eater, I LOVE chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake,, and I get bored if Iam doing the same thing for more than 3 weeks.
Ivy League  is a female therapist living  in Ilinois, currently weighing  278 pounds. I really don’t know how I got to that number, nor do I really believe that number is really my weight now. But apparently, you can’t argue with three doctor visits, and their scales. During this twelve week journey I will be challenged in my eating habits. I have a boyfriend that is 6’2 and about 300 pounds, that loves to eat, and loves to take me out to eat; saying no is difficult. We eat out almost every day. However my strength is that I have hired a trainer, and I know take Tae Kwon Do twice a week. With a prepared meal plan and my new active lifestyle I plan to loose, 30 pounds over the next twelve weeks. Join me, and follow my progress.

CarolinaBelle – TBAis a 29-year old female living in the Carolinas and trying to wholeheartedly embrace fitness. While this journey is not primarily for weight loss (although 15 pounds over the next 12 weeks would be phenomenal), ultimately my goal is to become a more athletic woman. To achieve this end, I’m going to train to run a 5K using a program designed for running novices. This is going to be difficult for a definite “non-runner” with a full plate – work, teaching, and family responsibilities. However, nothing worth doing is ever easy. This chronicle will detail the journey towards physical fitness. Hopefully, this is the first step in meaningful and permanent lifestyle changes for improved health.
