Should Women Carry Condoms?

Promiscuous Girl

Promiscuous Girl

I stumbled across a survey in Essence the other day. The survey asked men should women carry condoms or whether it was the male’s responsibility. While 71% of female readers felt it was their responsibility to bring a condom, I was amazed at the answers some men were giving. Many men considered a woman to be promiscuous or slutty if she carried condoms around.

A single woman who has a stash in her goody drawer at home is somewhat of a turnoff. I appreciate women who make it known that they will not have sex without condoms, but they should look to the man to be prepared should they decide to be intimate.”

- Cornell H.,31 Investment banker

It appeared that a lesser amount of men actually thought a woman was being safe by protecting herself and her partner by packing the condoms.  Some men even went so far to suggest that a woman carrying a condom is emasculating…WTH!

As a woman, we all know that men will come up with any excuse to get it in without a life vest, including the “Dang, I forgot my condom, or I ran out,” excuse. So, if she really wants to have sex and you are “out”  everyone wins, and the party keeps on rolling.  If we are in an age where disease runs rampant and you should be questioning your partners stats and bill of health before doin’ the do, why would promiscuity be the first thing that comes to mind?

Is promiscuity a question because she comes prepared, meaning she could have sex at the drop of a dime? Do good girls not carry condoms? We are back to that old double standard again.  If a woman carries a condom she is a ho and if a man does he is being smart?  GTFOHWTBS!!!

Should women carry condoms?

Is she promiscuous if she does?

Guys, would you trust a condom given to you by a girl?

This says a lot, particularly since the Investment Banker is the one who has obtained a higher level of education to make such a ridiculous comment. It's not just a double standard, but a larger issue of how our sociological values remain regressive while our society advances technologically...definitely incongruent!!! Ladies, protect yourself b/c we live in a society where you are "doing good" if the only mishap from engaging in sexual intercourse is to get pregnant!!! For details on how to carry your condoms discreetly, with fashion sense, check out www.justincaseinc.com. They were highlighted on "The Doctors" and I believe "The Wendy Williams Show" for their products that look like makeup compacts, but hold two to three condoms...and that's a good look. ;o) (Somehow, I think that same investment banker would get over it if his lady du jour was prepared--because he could get some in that moment! ...jerk.

As a man I definitely feel a woman should always be prepared with a condom. Men and women. It's like a graveyard out here in this world when it comes to sex. You never know, you simply never know. So always stay protected.

yes. might as well be prepared.

I can't believe how backwards that investment baker's comment is. That attitude suggests that women's only strategy to protect ourselvesfrom disease and pregnancy is to decide whether to have sex or not.

regardless, a guy who comes unprepared simply doesn't want or deserve to have sex. i learned the hard way that the guy who shows up without a condom is just as likely to take off the one you give him or let it break and not tell you, leaving you in a world of dealing with morning pills and std tests for weeks and months ahead. that ish is simply not worth it.

I do...The women who carry the condoms are the ones you should trust. No woman should be without them. People are often time reckless and saving yourself should be your number one priority...It's better to be seen than viewed...:-)...National HIV testing day June 27th!!! Get tested!
