Tyra Banks and Hennessy for Obama?
By CocoaDiva on Feb 01, 2009 with Comments
I am estatic that the first black president has finally been elected to office. Congrats Mr. Barack Obama on your win. However, I have seen everything from an Obama thong to Obama comemerative liquor. Did any street vendors give like 10% to Obama’s campaign for all those shirts, buttons, hats, photos, and random ish they sold during inauguration?
When does it become too much? I am going to say that we may be trying to do waaaaay tooo much on the Obama fro
nt. P.O.S.H. even got hit up to run a press release from Hennessy about their Obama Limited edition. We are not sure how we feel about it. You know black folks love them some Henny. So is it offensive to have a “Black” liquor commemorated for our Black President?
Additionally, the fashion world is going crazy over a Harper’s Bazaar magazine casting the 6-year-old Brooklyn, New York, first-grader, Ariel Binns, with model Tyra Banks in a photo spread showing an African-American family in the White House.
“It’s a trend because, what little girl doesn’t want to emulate the first kids?” said Marlene Wallach, president of Wilhelmina, which represents Binns.
She is an ador
able child buuuuut does she even look like Sasha?
“The Obamas were not happy when toy manufacturer Ty Inc. came out with African-American dolls named Sweet Sasha and Marvelous Malia even though the company said the dolls did not look like the Obama girls. First lady Michelle Obama’s office said it was “inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes.”
Are we going overboard on Obamamania?
I think its getting to the point where our oversensationalist behavior can hurt the man’s position in office. Its like we expect Obama to do magic and save the world in one single bound. The minute he does something we don’t agree with will there be an equal amount of “Booo Obama” press???
Why can’t we just let the man do his job? Inauguration is over….you took pictures and watched footage….now go do some community service and let the man get to business.
