No one on the corner have swagger like us
Swagger like us, swagger like us…….
Living revolutionary, nothing less than legendary
I wanted to do three articles on the Obamas and the way they have revolutionized being Black in The United States. The first installment is about the family and relationship image the Obamas have displayed in the media. Be on the look out for the Barack and the Michelle as individuals edition.
What the heck is swagger? People use the word in everyday and have no clue what it means. It has even made its way into mainstream culture and Old Spice has a product called swagger. It has turned into one of those universal words and is even defined in Webster’s Dictionary as- to walk with an air of overbearing self-confidence.
Let’s talk about the relationship swagger of Barack and Michelle. Barack Obama has been elected the First African-American President of the United States of America. For the last year, we have seen Michelle and Barack’s relationship on display and their love for each other is as blatant as a fist bump or a forehead kiss. Everyone wants that Huxtable like relationship and we may have our real world example with Barack and Michelle.
Barack and Michelle exude swagger and even redefine the word in my opinion. The Obamas have been married over 15 years, have a relationship in the public eye, and are still kicking. Barack 47, and Michelle, 44, met in 1989 when Obama spent his summer as a first-year law student at the Chicago law firm of Sidley & Austin, and Michelle Robinson was the lawyer assigned to be his adviser. So, Michelle was doing her and Barack was doing him and somewhere they met in the middle, fell in love, and married.
Barack and Michelle tell us Black Love is alive and well. They let us know that the Huxtables ARE real. A Black man CAN love a Black woman and raise a prosperous black family. Black women CAN be successful and have the love and admiration of a Black man. Black men CAN be supported and revered by Black women. Black relationships CAN last and meet the strongest outside pressure and scrutiny and remain unscathed. You can see their love in how they speak to each other, how they talk to and about each other, their unspoken body language speaks volumes. I believe that they show Black couples how to be friends, lovers, and business partners.
Most importantly, they show us the essence of Black love.
1. What is your definition of swagger?
2. . Do you feel Barack and Michelle’s relationship will have a positive effect on Black Relationships?
3. Has their relationship affected your perception of Black Love?
Lets talk about it!!
