Grow Long Hair With Essential Oils

Tired of short, brittle, and lifeless hair?  Wish you could pull your hair back in a pony tail or have your hair as long as that weave your rockin’?  Its possible.  I grew tired of all these magical cremes, and conditioners that that did nothing for my hair.  I decided to try out the essential oils and carrier oils to make a few concoctions for my hair.  Over the last three months my hair has grown much faster than I ever imagined.  Natural and relaxed girls alike should try these out.   Essential oils have also been proven in regrowing hair loss by patients suffering from alopecia

I will try to give out a few recipes a week for you to try out on your hair.  I guarantee you won’t be sorry.

I challenge you to go look at your hair products and see if you see the following essential oils or carrier oils.  Many products and oils contain harsh minerals which damage your hair.  Why not mix pure ingredients and make products inexpensively which help YOUR hair?  Who would have thought juices, oils, and berries would be good for your hair?

Essential oils such as tea tree, rosemary, lavender, and thyme promote hair growth when massaged on to the scalp with a carrier oil (like cocout).  These products can be found at your local health food store or ordered online.

Add only 2 to 3 drops of essential oil to approximately ¼ cup of a carrier such as Jojoba, Olive or Sweet Almond Oil. Massage the mixture into dry hair and leave on for up to 30 minutes and wash hair as usual.

Carrier Oils

Sweet Almond Oil – This oil is extremely good for dry and dull hair. Contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E, as well as essential fatty acids (good fats).

Olive oil – Olive oil is easily absorbed and conditions hair and scalp very well. I use olive oil regularly in my hair to seal in moisture and provide softness.

Coconut oil – This oil is another moisture sealer. It also smells wonderful and leaves hair feeling soft. (one of my personal favorites)

Castor oil – Castor oil added to hair care products helps to seal in moisture. It also makes hair softer and is known to thicken thin hair over time with regular use.

Vitamin E oil – Vitamin E oil is great for rejuvenating dull, dry, and damaged hair when used regularly.

Jojoba oil- Jojoba oil is very similar to the sebum that our scalps naturally secrete. Because of our hair’s tight coil pattern, black women’s hair usually doesn’t receive enough sebum, which results in the dryness and breakage. Sense it is so similar to natural sebum, it is easily absorbed by the hair and scalp and provides excellent lubrication and smoothing.

Essential Oils

Rosemary - promotes hair growth by increasing circulation in the scalp and can be used directly on the scalp.
Peppermint oil - stimulates hair growth because of the tingling sensation is provides to the scalp. It also reduces itching and of course, the smell is great. Can be used directly on hair/scalp.
Grapefruit oil – This is another oil that is good for stimulating hair growth.
Tea-Tree Oil – Many, many uses! It is anti-bacterial, antiseptic and fungicidal, meaning that it will free hair follicles of any bacteria and fungus that is clogging them. (Fungus in hair follicles is sometimes the reason for slow hair growth!) It blends easily with other natural oils that your body makes, so it is absorbed easily. Tea-Tree Oil also reduces dandruff, itching and any sores and lesions you may have on your skin/scalp.

I even add a few drops of peppermint oil and rosemary to my conditioner!  Be careful when mixing because essential oils in their natural state before mixing are very very strong!

Stay tuned for great recipies!!

A good company to find essential oils online is www.nematinternational.com . I order many essential oils from this company for both hair and skin.
  • This is good. The only thing on this list that I already use is olive oil. I've been wanting to try out other oils for a while now.

I have been growing lock for 4 years now. I have tried everything you can imagine just to see what works. I have found that natural oils mixed in a non alcohol product works best for me. My girlfriend says it weighs her hair down and I agree but keep in mind I have locks and depending on the style you wear you may appreciate this affect. I quickly noticed that with natural oils my hair had more shine, hold, grew longer and even locked quicker. I have thick hair that gets dry for no reason, so for me natural oils are the only way. I recently mixed EVOO in with some other oils today and I already like it. It's just extra from what was already working for my hair. You have to see how far my locks have come in four years using these natural oils. They are healthy, long and neat. Tip: use what works best for your hair type but try to use all natural products and stay away from alcohol and propane products. the more natural the better especially if you have locks.

Thanks for the tip for using castor oil for thinning hair. Is it only thick as long as you continue to use it and once you stop your hair is thin again?

For those of you interested in using a combination of the previously mentioned oils pre-mixed, try Kera Care essential oils for the hair. Here is a list of the ingredients:
    sunflower seed oil
    peanut oil
    castor oil
    coconut oil
    jojoba oil
    sesame oil
    aloe vera oil
    almond oil
    olive oil

After reading this post, I purchased peppermint oil and added it as well. I plan to get vitamin e and the essential oils mentioned in this post to add to this premix.

I use this Kera Care mix daily (very little before wrapping at night).

It has an option for use as a thermal styling agent as well.

After a fresh wash I rub about a nickel worth in my palm and fingertips and rub throughout my hair. I use the blowdryer briefly to make sure that it is applied throughout and style with a curling iron. The results are amazing. Shiny healthy hair. I make curls all throughout and wear a cute 1940's curl wave look. I wrap nightly for the next few days and repeat. I have been using Kera Care for about a month and I love it. Not too heavy. I added the peppermint about a week ago.

Esquire and Pinkie using this product esp as a thermal styling agent leaves my hair looking and feeling flowly and weightless.
    Good luck!
  • Pinkie, I have the exact same problem. I usually wait to use olive oil when I am about to resort to ponytails and wash n go styles. In the meantime, I use the Aveda Brilliant serum and it seems to keep my hair moisturized without weighing it down. But I totally feel your pain on the slightest amount of oil making your hair lifeless. My friend just came out with a line of natural hair products. Check them out: www.luvamourai.com
  • I really want to try olive oil too. I have an Olive Oil sheen spray from ORG that I use and that's pretty good. My only issue with oils is that it makes my hair so lifeless and weighed down. Even if it's just a little bit. I am trying to find a way to make sure that my hair gets the moisture that it needs with oils, without weighing it down. decisions.. decisons... decisions.....

  • My toddler daughter recently suffered alopecia due to another medical condition and I was almost in tears when her doctor said she might not grow her hair back. I am talking about bald spots the size of a baseball in back of her head. I have been using dr Miracle's feel it formula with some success but i am REALLY interested in what you posted here. Can't wait to see what you post!
