Where Did Black Love Go?

What do Black men love about Black women? I started off doing a post to make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy. I googled “why black men love black women?” I thought I would find a poll, or survey I could quickly post. What did I find……some madness.
I am not against interracial dating. I just wonder what happened to Black Love? I searched page after page on Google and came up with ads like Black Man/White Woman, White Girls love Black Men, Black Women/White Man, Its so hard dating a black man/woman…….

WHERE WERE THE SITES ABOUT US LOVING EACH OTHER?

Is this why the divorce rates are so high? Is that why we have so many problematic relationships with each other? Interracial couples didn’t become the norm until after segregation. That was only 40+ years ago!!! Where did the love go in 40 years folks??? Where did the respect and cultivation of black love go? Heck I had to search high and low just to find this photo!

I know that its a free love movement going on out there and you can’t help who you love. But when did we stop loving each other black people?

Maybe we can start here.

Black men what do you love about black women?

Black women what do you love about black men?

No hate …..only love.

Hey to all you men out there. My black men- Dont listen to these negative comments that people always use to put you down. Just know that there are fine educated black women who are down for you no matter what.

I love a man who is intellectual and compassionate, caring, understanding spiritual, loving, funny, and good spirited. When I think of these attributes the first thing that comes to mind is my one and only true love and that is my BLACK MAN.

love you love you love you baby.

    Hello there!

It is amazing you have this post because Darryl Jones had a two-part series on "Black Men Hate Black Women" and "Black Women Hate Black Men".

    Sheer madness!

I think that many resentments between black men and black women are rooted in unresolved abandonment issues.

    Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

I love the way certain colors can compliment a sista's complexion.

I am so sick and tired of hearing about Black Love and where it went as if it's totally non-existent because it's not! It's Black folks getting married all around the world everyday. There are also Black folks in committed relationships. Just look around. I see Black couples walking down the street holding hands all the time, young and old. There are also plenty of them in Hollywood. I think we make too much a fuss about these so called "Black Issues"

Great post but also check out Chauncey's 3 part series about Is Black Love Dead on this blog. Pretty interesting reading. I love this blog. Keep up the good work!

I have to say that as long as we focus on the negative, we will subconsciously subdue ourselves to negative attitudes and/or actions towards each other and within ourselves as Black people. Having said that, I would like to focus on the positive qualities that I enjoy about Black Men.
I enjoy being able to relate to a Black man because he understands my struggle to live as a Black woman every day in America.

I respect his willingness to work hard everyday to support his family, himself or loved ones.

I admire the way he passionately supports me even if my decisions are not always sound.

Last but not least among many other positives, I enjoy the chocolate skin that I get to gaze at everyday when I see him.

Black man, Black man, Black man, although your love is ancient, it is the moving force of my dedication to find the right black man when the time is right.

    Peace

I don't think interracial couples are the norm. Black men and women are still far less likely than any other race to marry outside of their "race". Black love didn't go anywhere. Interracial marriages where one partner is Black represent less than 10% of marriages involving Black people overall (from a CNN article).

I think that Black love is not embraced by popular culture because having two people that are not a mother/father and child (unless you are on BET or marketing to a primarily Black audience during a Black tv show) doesn't present the diversity image that makes people all warm and fuzzy. And as for the internet, well that is unexplainable. But then, google tends to bring back wiki and articles that talk about emerging areas of society. Black love has been around for centuries. I'd imagine that if you googled "get a White woman" the results would not generally apply to White men.

i think it's difficult to talk about the love without addressing the subconcious hate this society promotes on black people in general. we're all sort of programmed or brainwashed to see each other in this bad light. while there exists bad elements within everyone, ours seem to be thrust to the forefront the very second it's possible to do so. that level of negative reinforcement, in my opinion fosters this rejection within our own and attraction with others.

outside of that issue, i love my mother. i love my aunts. i love my cousins. i love my black female friends. they are the positive examples that i need to see to reinforce the concept that there are great black women out there. i want to find a good black woman like all those women i know, flaws included lol.

but, these promoted attitudes make it so difficult to just love a black woman and be IN love with a black woman. too many black women tell me i don't exist. but i see myself in the mirror everyday, feel my heart beat, breathe air into my lungs. yet, i still don't exist.

i mean, i know i exist. but it would be nice to get some appreciation for not matching the prevalent stereotype about myself. sure i don't fit the ideal, but who does? i've got my flaws, but who doesn't? why can't i exist?
