When did we stop being real? Is Serena a Victim?

We now take a small break in our relationship discussions to bring you some random discussion. Serena Williams will appear in Men’s Health Magazine with the below layout. P.O.S.H. recently brought you discussions about Beyonce and her Feria Ad, and Jennifer Hudson with her Album cover. Now there are allegations that Serena is photoshopped in her layout. On Concrete Loop, several commenters believed that is not the real muscle bound Serena in the layout. Several commenters say her muscle definition is softened, and her face structure is narrowed and her face is lightend. Is photoshop the new trend for displaying women in popular culture?

How often have you seen men visibly photo shopped in magazine layouts. What is the real underlying issue we have to address in America. Every one rode the “its cool to be a thick girl pony when P.O.S.H. told you to get real with yourself and hit the gym if you are unhealthy.” Now a fit, and toned athlete is trimming down her muscles to appeal to men. Men’s Health even toned down all of Serena’s back side. What gives? Why can’t we rock what we have and be happy and be successful in America?

Are the athletes and stars able to stand up and say don’t photoshop me to the extent I no longer look like myself but some image that you think will sell more ads or products?

Its Men's Health!!! NOT KING or XXL or SmoothMag. There is definately a difference in the demographic of readership between those magazines and Men's Health. I'm not surprised at the accusations but I'm also not pleased that they did this.

Besides, I only get the men's health seasonal workout guides...

Everybody is photoshopped in a magazine.

Exactly! I don't see the big deal. Everybody is photoshopped and edited in some type of way when they have spreads in magazines. It's a part of photography. It's called editing..

having always worked in a corporate marketing environment (most recently at a large media company) I can confirm all images of people are photoshopped to fit the image of the publication and its demographic.
