Beyonce’s New Feria Ad: Who is it Really For?

I never talk about beauty a lot on P.O.S.H. yet. So here is my first random stab. Here is Beyonce’s new ad for L’oreal. First of all, I know Beyonce’s stylist is not using Feria on her lacefront wig or her 800 Indian Remy weave hair. You know that Feria is store brand and Beyonce is not using it.

Also did you know a feria (Latin for “free day”) was a day on which the people, especially the slaves, were not obliged to work, and on which there were no court sessions?

Finally, why does Beyonce look like a white girl? Her skin is washed out or lightened and her hair is Blond with a suuuuper press or thick weave. She looks like a 30 year old white woman. Now who is this ad supposed to attract? White girls who want to be Bootylicious or Black women uncomfortable in their own skin?

You tell me…..

Looking at Google images, you'll find photos of Beyonce, with very light skin, so its hard to say how much lightening was done to her skin. But I think even more disturbing about this ad is what looks like alterations to her nose and facial structure.

    Hey there!

Loreal is NOT attempting to appeal to black women and if they ARE then they are doing it poorly by hiring black celebrities and then lightening their skin and hair!!

I think black consumers should VOICE their disapproval for this type of insulting ad...

It's one thing to gripe... and it's another to be ANGRY and channel that anger with collective action that gets results.

    Here's the info!

We were thinking alike in googling her pics. I found ones that are darker, but I also found ones that are the exact same skin color. I just think that it comes down to tanning and bronzers. And also the color of the hair plays a big factor on how pale you can look. But I don't think they would go as far as photoshopping, esp. since she has been featured in other ads where she is shown much tanner then her natural complexion for effects. idk...

Chaunece...I wish I could agree with you about her skin color. I just changed the photo so everyone can picture in their minds about Beyonce's real skin color. Now do you see what I am talking about?

Again....what is the real deal with this ad?

sorry for the many typos, I was typing fast ;-)

I have seen a lot of Beyonce bashing about this ad. Yes she does look rather light and the hair is definitely very light.

But let's not forget that she is very lightskinned to begin with. There were comments about tannign and bronzing made before. If she does that then great, But if she is noaturally light then why should she have to darken her skin by tanning and bronzing to be accepted? I honetsly don't think it was lightened that much if at all.

Secondly, Beyonce always rocks some shade of blonde weave...so it's a little lighter and straighter now...what's the problem? She is a spokes model...meaning that they pay her to model what they want...It's a job. She is just doing it. Why place social responsibilty on her about how she makes her money?

Loreal is trying to attract anyone that would like their hair to be this color. That's what I look at when buying haircolor. The color of the HAIR on the box. It's just that simple to me. I think everyone should lighten up and give her a break.

OMG! I totally feel you. Beyonce is one of the Black Women celbs that is very unconscious of how her ethnic image and heritage are percieved. From her comments about wanting to be Latina, it's obvious she is clueless to the whitewash effect that almost always takes place in this industry. Just look at Jlo, she is only Latina when it counts and Bey is right on her trail.
    Makes me sick!

Word is that Loreal is going through some legal issues concerning the use to black women in their marketing.

Secondly, I rather them not just black women at all then to just a black woman a very known back woman and white wash her.

Some say beyonce is very light skin well.. she ain't white I can tell you that . Even when she's preforming or doing a shot they always put some kind of bronzer on her to give her that darker tone.So whey not now?
