What’s in YOUR fridge?

must do the same. Go take a look in your kitchen….go ahead…..I’ll wait……………………………………………………..Open the cabinet doors…..are those pop tarts??? What’s in the icebox…..a cheesecake? Now the fridge……..lord have mercy. You’re not even bringing a knife to a gun fight….you’re bringing a water balloon. Are you trying to lose weight or raise your blood pressure? Let’s be really clear on this. Weight loss takes strategic planning. A good offense is the best defense! Arm yourself with healthy foods and snacks that will lessen your chances of having a “food mishap.” Many of you may use the excuse I did, “Why would I throw away perfectly good food? There are starving kids in Somalia!” Well, I’ll tell you like my mother told me….pack it up and ship it to them because you are *far* from starving. Don’t play Russian roulette with your body….arm yourself with the right foods in order to have a successful weight loss journey. Now, as many readers may or may not know, I have lost over 30 pounds now with Weight Watchers. Cocoa Diva has lost over 40 pounds. *pats herself on the back* We’re going to share with you what we have in OUR fridge that has helped us lose weight and keep it off:
1. Weight Watchers Peanut Butter Bars–1pt each and delicious!!! A perfect blend of chocolate and peanut butter to kill any sweet tooth without killing your diet.
2. Special K Protein Water Mix In’s–I am not a huge fan of water, so I use low calorie mix ins to help me get through my daily water requirement. Special K’s Protein Mix Ins taste great and wards off hunger due to the extra protein it provides. My favorite is the Lemonade Iced Tea.
3. Broccoli–Its nature’s perfect food in my opinion. High in fiber, low in calories, high in taste. Nuff said.
4. Veggie Crisp 100 Calorie Packs–These delicious vegetable chips are an excellent substitute for the saltier, fattier, real thing. They taste great and the 100 calorie packs ensure you won’t eat the entire bag in one sitting. Remember, too much of anything, even a good thing, can be bad!
5. Frozen berries & bananas–Easiest thing in the world to use to make my smoothies in the morning.
6. Better n’ Peanut Butter–Now, anyone that knows me knows that I love peanut butter….I am a peanut butter connoisseur . This peanut butter has 85% less fat and 40% fewer calories and actually tastes BETTER than peanut butter in my opinion. The peanut butter is creamy and very sweet. May not work for those who don’t enjoy sweet peanut butter (think Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup) but I love it!
7. Whey Protein–Great for smoothies and a helpful aide in building muscle!
8. Splenda–I love coffee and teas, but I hate drinking my calories. So Splenda allows me to have calorie free beverages. Should only be used in moderation as a substitute for sugar, but some studies suggest that even artificial sweeteners can run havoc on your appetite and cause you to be hungry.
9. Whole Wheat Low Fat English Muffins (Trader Joe’s)-They are about the only whole wheat thing I can tolerate that doesn’t taste like cardboard! They are delicious and pack about half the calories and less than half the fat of regular english muffins. I use them to make sandwiches, pizzas, and fake bruchetta all the time.
10. Non stick cooking spray
11. Liquid egg whites–Whole eggs are so 1995. Egg whites are low in calories, fat, and cholesterol.
12. Lean Cuisines/ Smart Ones/ Amy’s Frozen Dinners–For those times when I just don’t feel like cooking, I don’t have to order take out and ruin my diet. These perfect little meals come in just the right proportion and are very filling. Most importantly… they taste great!
Due to my work schedule, my question is like what is in my desk drawer. I never have time to cook so I need quick and easy food and snacks to keep me on the straight and narrow.
5. Special K Protein Water – That commercial is the truth!! I go to my office and pour a glass when folks in the office start the cookie/pie/birthday cake/pizza frenzy. In minutes my mind is off of the junk.
7. Smoothies with Whey Protein- I may have one for lunch or after my gym work out! GREAT way to get my protein in!!
