Post 4th of July Dextoxing

You had a great time last night. Those martinis, or beers were on point!! You just woke up to Lil John screamin directly into your ear…Yeah!!! over and over….including some loud bass music like you are still in the club.
Its time for a healthy return to your normal life and detox.

Hangovers are a result of over enlarged blood vessels in your brain. Drinking not only depletes your system of fluid but also robs you of essential nutrients. Impurities are added to alcoholic beverages during the distillation process, and these contribute to the nasty stomachache you get with your hangover. These impurities are especially high in sweeter drinks and malt liquors. Drinking lots of water, then, does two things: it rehydrates your body and dilutes the impurities left in your belly.

Partygoers may think of alcohol as their best friend, but your liver treats alcohol as one of many enemies. When the body attempts to break down and remove alcohol, it creates a highly toxic byproduct known as acetaldehyde, according to researchers working with the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism in Bethesda, Md. After too much alcohol is ingested, the toxins build up faster than the body can flush them out and voila — a hangover.

Tips and Tricks

Rehydrate your body
The most important remedy is quite simple: Rehydrate your body. Your body needs to rejuvenation after all those Heineken’s or Grey Goose concoctions you threw back last night. Whether it’s water, orange juice, 7-Up or chicken soup, fluid is essential to speeding your recovery.

Vitamins B & C
Take vitamins B & C. Alcohol will deplete nutrients from your body and the vitamins will help you replace what you lose from your body by drinking. Drinking orange juice, grapefruit juice, and grape juice will also help. Juice contains natural sugars which help to break down any remaining alcohol in your system.

Crunch and Munch
Another thing to do is eat, even if you don’t feel like it. The alcohol you drink takes a toll on your body. Your body has exhausted its resources in processing the alcohol and you need to get nutrition of some kind. Dairy products and foods high in protein are often considered the most helpful. Fruit and honey can help because they contain fructose. Soup can help re-hydrate your body.

Coffee
Coffee doesn’t hurt either, but be careful because too much caffeine is a recipe for dehydration.

Here’s to your swift and healthy recovery!

The best thing that helps me is to drink a bunch of water before I actually go to sleep. That way you don't wake up as dehydrated and you won't have as serious a hang-over.......not that I'm a lush or anything
