Healthy Hair Tip of the Week: Protein Treatments

This one is for my ladies….

As a woman I know how it feels to stress over your hair. Ever since I could pick up a mirror, I have been in love with my tresses and on the hunt for the “perfect products” to achieve my perfect style. I wanted long, thick, luxurious hair and was stuck with thin hair that just never wanted to act right. It would obtain length, but eventually split ends would rear their ugly heads and my hair dresser played Edward Scissorhands with my locks. I was fed up and annoyed. I went from permed, to natural, back to permed and my hair has been just about every length and style out there. It is only recently that I have come to be in love with my tresses. And I mean IN LOVE with my hair. Why? Because it is healthy, shiny, and beautiful. My miracle? Protein. I am a huge fan of protein treatments and attribute my hair growth to weekly protein treatments and deep conditioners. Our hair is made of protein, so the only way to make our hair stronger and thicker is to use protein treatments. The protein in protein treatments actually attach to the follicles of the hair making the hair thicker. Other shampoos and conditioners claim to make hair thicker, but in reality they simply add volume to give u the appearance of thicker hair. Protein is the ONLY way to actually add thickness to your hair. I use liquid protein in my hair every week followed with a deep moisturizing conditioner and will use Aphogee Protein Treatments once per month to prevent breakage. Aphogee makes your hair extremely hard so it is important to moisturize and deep condition afterwards. My favorite conditioner is Aveda Damage Remedy Reconstructing Conditioner. Its expensive, but extremely effective. I also follow up with a little Aveda Brilliant Hair Serum. Style as usual and go be fabulous! That’s my healthy hair tip for the week! Look for more later! Happy healthy hair growing ladies!

  • Dominican hair products and hair stylists are quickly earning an outstanding reputation throughout the United States. I am sure that many wonder if this is just a new fad or if the products and stylists actually deserve their reputation. To determine their credibility lets analyze their hair treatment process.

Very nice informative text I have just finished 6 months of herbal shampooing treatment and whenever I reviewed my self in the mirror I was amazed at the results. The treatment definitely works and as long as you stick with the natural healing, the positive results will come. I have signed up iht9 for another 6 months.

My hair is a real mess, I am 26 now and despite all my efforts I didn't find any appropriate treatment to make it glow and have an aesthetic look. I sometimes wear natural hair wigs, I find it much easier to handle the problem.

Would be helpful if measurement ratio were given for the Mayo/Egg/Olive oil treatment, and length of time to leave it on.

    Lettmigo,
I would suggest first trying the Aphogee protein treatments. I would also suggest weekly deep conditioners of mayonaise, eggs, and olive oil. Are you going to a licensed professional for your relaxers? Check out: http://www.ultrablackhair.com/ for my hair tips. I've never used the products, but I go there for tips all the time. Hopefully this helps. Also, check around and find the best hair dressers that specialize in hair care rather than hair styling. Good luck! Keep me posted on how this works out for you.

my hair has been short for many years (natural) I never had problem until I permed it. My hair is naturally THICK! it started breaking off 6 months ago. Now I shed like a puppy and it is difficult to feel sexy.lol What do I do now? cut it off and start again or should I start treatments on protein?

Thanks so much! I can truly say I attribute my hair growth over the past year to regular protein treatments. You can find Aphogee at any beauty supply store such as Sally's, etc. I have not been able to find a weekly protein liquid treatment at any beauty supply, thus I usually get my liquid protein from my hairdresser (its a Dominican shop, not sure if that makes a difference). The liquid protein I use is JAS Emergiscalp. There are others my hairdresser uses as well (the names escape me, but I can post them later). You may also want to try a mixture of mayonnaise, eggs, and olive oil as a weekly treatment (eggs and mayo are protein). Happy hair growing!!!!

Great post! Where can you find the Aphogee treatments? What weekly liquid protein do you use?
